Deadbeat Banks Fail to Pay TARP Dividends

HK’s Bright International to Buy Gold Mines for $956 Million

Toyota Plans $1 Billion Marketing, More Hybrids

Toyota is preparing a $1 billion marketing campaign to boost U.S. sales in the fourth quarter, while also expanding its line of hybrid models under the Prius name.

The $1 billion will include a media campaign, as well as buyer and dealer incentives, including sweeteners for leasing.

Roche Drops Defense Against Amgen at ITC

Roche is conceding defeat at the International Trade Commission in a patent battle with Amgen over anemia drugs, court filings show.

Disney to buy Marvel in $4bn deal

Entertainment giant Walt Disney is to buy Marvel Entertainment in a shares and cash deal valued at $4bn (£2.5bn).

The deal means Disney will take over ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man and the X-Men.

ICBC six months profit at $9.7bn

In the six months to 30 June, Chinese biggest bank icbc has made a net profit of 66.4bn yuan ($9.7bn; £5.9bn), up 3% from a year ago and ahead of market expectations.

Australia’s ANZ to Buy RBS Asia Units for $550 Million

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group has agreed to pay about $550 million to buy some Asian units from British lender Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), building up its Asia presence.

The deal would cement ANZ’s position as a regional bank and would be a key step in Australia’s fourth biggest bank’s goal to generate a fifth of its revenue from Asia by 2012.

Walt Disney reported lower quarterly earnings that topped analysts’ forecasts, but the company’s shares declined in extended trading as its revenue missed predictions.

Mortgage lending to house buyers picked up again in May, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML). The number of home loans for house buyers rose by 4% in the month to 37,400, although that was still 28% lower than a year ago.
